Child Safety Statement
Mt Hira College is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment
where the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of all children and young people are
prioritised at all times. Students at Mt Hira College are supported to feel safe, respected,
valued and heard within a positive and child-centred school environment.
The College has zero tolerance for child abuse and is committed to acting in the best
interests of every child. This commitment extends to all students, including those from
culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
students, students with disability and those who may be vulnerable or at greater risk.
Child safety is a shared responsibility across the entire College community. All staff,
volunteers, contractors and students are expected to understand and uphold their role in
maintaining a child safe environment and promoting the wellbeing of all students.
Mt Hira College implements a comprehensive Child Safety Program underpinned by the
Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy, Child Safety Code of Conduct, Mandatory Reporting
Policy, Reportable Conduct Policy, Failure to Disclose Policy and Failure to Protect Policy,
which collectively establish clear expectations, responsibilities and procedures for
preventing and responding to child safety concerns.
All staff, volunteers and relevant personnel are required to complete a structured induction
prior to commencing their roles, which includes training in the College’s Child Safety
Program, reporting obligations and professional conduct expectations. Ongoing training is
provided to ensure continuous awareness and compliance with legislative and child safety
requirements.
The College is committed to fostering a strong child safe culture through education, open
communication, student empowerment and continuous improvement, ensuring that all
children feel safe to raise concerns and are supported in a timely, respectful and effective
manner.
